The name OKATOMA came from the
Choctaw word "okatoba" which means "to be watery". Here is one of
the best canoeing streams in our state. It flows freely through
forests and farms. Probably the biggest attraction for the
canoeist is the series of small waterfalls and rapids spilling over
shelves of sandstone and clay. They range from a few feet of shoal
water to waterfalls of 2 to 3 feet. The okatoma is challenge and a
perfect introduction to CLASS 1 (Beginner) white water.
