The fun never stops in Covington County, where a unique blend of history, entertainment, outdoor sports and special attractions guarantees a great time for all. Easy to get to by plane, car, or bus, fantastic food and comfortable lodging, all in the majestic setting of southern hospitality, await the visitor of any age.

Dining options vary in the area, which contains an eclectic mix of restaurant establishments, from savory country cooking by Old Order German Baptist families in Mt. Olive to fish camps, specialty food restaurants and fast-food inns in Collins and Seminary.

Relaxation is assured at both nationwide motel chains in Collins or vacationers may make reservations at the Okatoma House Bed and Breakfast in Seminary where the price is reasonable and the memories are free.

The Salem Opera House is the hub of activity the second Saturday of each month with authentic fiddle tunes at the Covington County Jamboree. There are "pick your own" farms with fresh vegetables, peanuts, blueberries and watermelon for sale in season and inviting roadside fruit and vegetable stands along Highway 49. With an average climate of 65 degrees, there is always a bounty of fresh pickings.

Mitchell Farms

Mitchell Farms headquarters, located near the intersection of the old Jackson Military Road and Leaf River Church Road, which follows the original Three-Chop-Way, is just up the hill from the old Don't post-office site.  Some of the features include a restored log house, and other farm buildings.  We also have many turn of the century antiques, wood carvings, miniature cast iron and other collectables on display.  U-pick vegetables and fresh shelled - picked on the farm - butterbeans and peas are for sale in seasons, which is usually June - July. Green peanuts are dug fresh daily (weather permitting) August - November. Dry peanuts are available September - December. Blueberries are available June - July.

Fall Fun on the Farm

Powell Drug Store

Powell Drug Store is located on the corner of Main Street in Mt. Olive, MS. THis store was originally opened around the turn of the 20th century. Most of the buildings original fixtures, including mosaic tile floors and marble soda fountain, still exist. A visit to Powell Drug Store will take you back to a quieter, more simple time and will stepp you in hospitality.  We also have an excellent gift line available.

 Seminary Canoe Rental

Located in Seminary Mississippi, we are a growing source of fun and adventure to families across the states!  We offer two different canoe trips ranging from 8 miles to 16 miles. Rent canoes from our new store located on Old Highway 49 right on the banks of the Okatoma. From there we will bus you up river and you canoe back down to your vehicles. Cabins, TV, and primitive camping are also available at our new location. New bath house and restrooms available. Drop by for some delicious hickroy smoked meats served with the fixin's. So, come enjoy a paddling good time on the Okatoma with the Seminary Canoe Rental.

 Lake Mike Conner

Lake Mike Conner reopened in 1990 after draining and restocking. It is one of 24 state fishing lakes operated by the Mississippi department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. Known for large bluegill and shellcrackers, the lake also contains a good population of large mouth bass./

Two handicapped access fishing piers make fishing from the bank popular. The boat ramp can accomodate boats of all sizes.
Sportfishing licenses are required to fish with the exception of July 4. Fishing permits are also required.

Covington County, 3 miles west of Collins off Hwy. 84
Size: 83 acres
Facilities: Boat ramp, boat rental, 12 camping pads with water/electical hookups, pavilion, picnic area with grills.
Wednesday and Sunday afternoons.
