The fun never stops in Covington County, where a unique blend of history, entertainment, outdoor sports and special attractions guarantees a great time for all. Dining options vary in the area, which contains an eclectic mix of restaurant establishments, from savory country cooking by Old Order German Baptist families in Mt. Olive to fish camps, specialty food restaurants and fast-food inns in Collins and Seminary. Relaxation is assured at both nationwide motel chains in Collins or vacationers may make reservations at the Okatoma House Bed and Breakfast in Seminary where the price is reasonable and the memories are free. The Salem Opera House is the hub of activity the second Saturday of each month with authentic fiddle tunes at the Covington County Jamboree. There are "pick your own" farms with fresh vegetables, peanuts, blueberries and watermelon for sale in season and inviting roadside fruit and vegetable stands along Highway 49. Mitchell FarmsMitchell Farms headquarters, located near the intersection of the old Jackson Military Road and Leaf River Church Road, which follows the original Three-Chop-Way, is just up the hill from the old Don't post-office site. Some of the features include a restored log house, and other farm buildings. We also have many turn of the century antiques, wood carvings, miniature cast iron and other collectables on display. U-pick vegetables and fresh shelled - picked on the farm - butterbeans and peas are for sale in seasons, which is usually June - July. Green peanuts are dug fresh daily (weather permitting) August - November. Dry peanuts are available September - December. Blueberries are available June - July. Powell Drug StorePowell Drug Store is located on the corner of Main Street in Mt. Olive, MS. THis store was originally opened around the turn of the 20th century. Most of the buildings original fixtures, including mosaic tile floors and marble soda fountain, still exist.
