VOTING QUALIFICATIONS

A person must be registered 30 days prior to an election in order to vote in Mississippi or Covington County and must:
* be a citizen of the United States
* be 18 years of age on or before general election
* be a resident of the state for 30 days
* be a resident of the election precinct for 30 days

VOTING REGISTRATION

A person can either register within the city of his residence or at the following location:

Registration at either location will ensure dual registration for municipal and county-wide elections.

MAIL-IN VOTER REGISTRATION

Applications may be obtained from the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office, 601-359-6357, local post offices, local libraries or the Circuit Clerk Office. Following completion of the application, it must be mailed to:

MARRIAGE LICENSE

License issued after three-day waiting period for receipt of blood test results from approved Mississippi lab. Proof of birth date and results of blood test must be made within 30 days of application. No license issued for party under 21 years of age except with parental consent. DRIVER’S LICENSE

Within 60 days after residency is established, a driver’s license must be purchased. Only the written and eye test are required if you are already licensed and may be taken at the following location on Mondays only.

AUTO TAGS & STICKERS

Upon establishing residency, a new citizen from out of state must purchase within 30 days, Mississippi license tag from:

You will need your last year’s tag receipt. A tag must be purchased for a new car within five working days and you must have the bill of sale and title. These tags are renewed each year on the anniversary date. If you move to Covington County from within the state, you ride on your old tag until it expires.

AUTOMOBILE INSPECTION

Inspection is required on all automobiles. There are many inspection stations (garages and service stations) throughout the county and the yearly cost for this inspection is $5.00.
